Locomotive CCS25 β€” built in 1905 by Beyer Peacock in England β€” is currently in the workshop receiving important repair work to return the locomotive to service.

Every hour spent on this restoration helps ensure this remarkable piece of Tasmanian rail heritage can get back out on the rails.

You can support projects like this simply by visiting us or making a donation. We are not for profit and all proceeds go back into the railway. Every bit helps keep our heritage moving!

It’s been a busy few days at the Don River Railway. A fallen tree blocked the line over the weekend, and today our crews are tackling a landslide along the route.

Our volunteers are already out on the track clearing debris and making the line safe again. Their commitment keeps the railway moving, even when the weather doesn’t cooperate.

We will be back running train rides this Thursday–Sunday, and we look forward to seeing you then β€” and a big thank you to our volunteer teams for their hard work.

Step back in time and ride in one of our beautifully restored heritage carriages. The timber walls, leather seating and gentle rhythm of the rails make this a journey that feels as good as it looks.

Whether you’re a regular visitor or discovering Don River Railway for the first time, this carriage is a favourite β€” a quiet reminder of how simple and special rail travel once was.

Trains are back running this Thursday to Sunday, 10am–2pm - have you planned your visit?
