WE'RE HIRING: FIRST-CLASS LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITY

The Don River Railway is entering an exciting new era. Backed by our 2026–2030 Strategic Plan and major capital investment, we are transitioning from a volunteer-led club into a professionally governed, commercially sustainable heritage tourism enterprise.

To steer this transition, we are looking for disciplined, outcomes-focused leadership. Because this vacancy covers a unique mix of commercial business management and safety-critical rail compliance, we are open to structuring the role to fit the right talent.

We welcome applications for the full-time combined executive position, or from individuals interested in either portfolio on a part-time basis:
πŸ”Ή General Manager Portfolio: Executive strategy, financial and grant stewardship, marketing, visitor precinct standards, and volunteer engagement.
πŸ”Ή Rail Operations Portfolio: Safety-critical technical accountability under Rail Safety National Law (RSNL), rules reform, and volunteer train crew management.

Whether your background is in executive business management, regional tourism growth, or heavy industrial safety compliance; if you have the grit to modernise our operations while respecting our heritage, we want to hear from you.

πŸ“ Location: Don, Devonport & North West TAS (with flexible hours).

Our volunteer team at the Inveresk Workshops in Launceston is hard at work restoring one of Tasmania’s true railway treasures β€” Carriage B2, built in 1869 in Birmingham England for the Tasmanian Railways.

This carriage has carried generations of Tasmanians, and thanks to the dedication, skill, and passion of our volunteers, it’s now being carefully brought back to life.

If you’ve ever thought about getting involved, now is the perfect time. Whether you’re handy with tools, love history, enjoy working with people, or simply want to be part of something meaningful - we’d love to welcome you to the team.

πŸ‘‰ Volunteer with us and help keep Tasmania’s railway heritage on track. Send us a message on Facebook or visit our website to get started.
