Inveresk Annual Report 2009-2010

As  Presented to the AGM on Saturday  October 2 2010

At the beginning of this report I must pay congratulate the members of the Inveresk Workshop for their dedication to the work that is being carried out on the vehicles under restoration.

While everyone is making a significant contribution I must pay tribute to Bill McGowan and Trevor Jones for their efforts.  Bill for his interest in making the general public aware of the workshop and Trevor for his management of the Community Grant Funding. Bill has been instrumental in getting us a special award of $2000 in the Launceston City Council Heritage Award program.  Trevor has been in communication with the treasurer Darren Lawson and also the Community Fund Committee.

Of a more serious note the Inveresk Workshop of the Don River Railway is being replaced to enable an earth levee for flood protection to be built. A meeting was held with the then Project Manager who outlined the procedures involved. Further meetings have been held with Council and with the York Park and Inveresk Authority.

AB2

Structurally this vehicle is ninety-eight percent finished.  All seating is completed, first class with high back seats with blue vinyl upholstery and in second class wooden seats.  Donations of items for this vehicle include window glass, mirrors, wood panelling and reclaimed timber from carriages taken apart at Evandale.

AAL+1 (The Royal Carriage)

All exterior panelling is virtually complete. The roof has had ply on it in preparation for covering with canvas, roof mouldings have been made, all internal doors have been made, window frames and louvres have been completed.  When some of the ceiling panels were removed it was found that most of them were of Huon Pine.  Some of the clerestory windows have to be replaced and we have a computer disc with stencils designs for these.  This disc also contains stencils for the glass door panels.  I have to thank Damian Camplin for his work in producing these stencil designs.

CC56

This vehicle was donated to the V.D.L.R.S. By the Queen Victoria Museum.  The bogies have been cleaned and repainted while the body was taken off and rust holes have been removed.  All brake gear has been checked and overhauled.

Gang Trolley.

This former Emu Bay workers trolley has been donated to the V.D.L.R.S. By Craig Webb and his family.  The motor has been overhauled, a new muffler fitted and a larger steel fuel tank installed in place of the plastic container.  The vehicle has new plastic windows, red and amber marker lights as well as an orange strobe light.  Seats have been padded and safety rails are being installed to enable passengers to be carried on short trips around the Inveresk site.  To make the trolley more appealing to children a smiley face has been painted on the front of the vehicle.  The trolley has been given the name “Tooter”.

On all the vehicles that are restored at Inveresk a sponsor board will be attached at an appropriate place in the vehicle.

As Inveresk Co-ordinater I have pleasure in presenting this annual report.
