INVERESK REPORT  Updated May 9

The Inveresk Workshop of the Don River Railway is possibly going to be relocated for the construction of an earth levee for flood protection to be built. This means that there will have to be an inspection of the items at Inveresk to decide which items are to be kept at Inveresk, which items are to be returned to Don and which items can be disposed of. At present Inveresk members are unsure of the moving date but it will happen.

A meeting was held at Inveresk between Chris Zidak of the Launceston City Council and some members of the Inveresk workgroup. A copy of the minutes has been forwarded to the Secretary of the Don River Railway. The meeting agreed that the most suitable site for the new workshop was towards Invermay Road and close to the make believe railway station (basically where the  railway station was).  This site is yet to be approved both by the Launceston City Council and YPIPA.  To that end lobbying of councillors is proceeding

In view of the visit by workplace standards to Don the Inveresk site has been undergoing an inspection and disposing of some unwanted items that we know cannot be useful either at Inveresk or at Don. Some illegal power cords have been disposed of and a cleaning up at the end of a work session regime has been introduced.  To this note it is imperative that some members from Don come to Inveresk and itemise articles which would be better at Don.

There are some items we have found that we have no idea where they came from or even what they are! Among items we do know is a water pump from a steam powered vessel and a single note chime whistle.

Works programme

AAL+1

We have photographic evidence that the roof of AAL+1 was painted white while the carriage was used in royal service. It is anticipated that the roof will be painted white when the carriage is finished

 Window frames Have been made.

The roof is being scraped down and being prepared for a new roof. Ply has already been placed on the roof in preparation for the final covering

Doors for the internal partitions have been constructed and attached to the partition walls.  These doors have been stained the same colours as the window louvres.

A donation of door handles for AAL+1 has been made.  The value of this donation is approx. $500. A letter of thanks will be written.

AB2

Exterior painting is being finished

Our upholsterer has returned after his operation and is finishing the first class seat bases.  This will leave the side panels under the window to complete. He anticipates using scrap foam for padding.

CC Wagon

The body of this vehicle has been lifted from its bogies and upended so that it can be scraped down, repaired and repainted.  Some of the worst pieces are  been cut out and replaced.

Rust inhibitor has been painted on the metal under frame.

The bogies have been sprayed and washed down to remove the caked on dirt and oil

The bogies have been undercoated with metal primer.
